Sketchwork: N’Dambi

I’m working on an episode featuring the fierceness of soul songstress, N’Dambi, and it’s kind of a big deal.

I’ve been drawing longer than I can remember — but I do recall that I’ve always been apprehensive about drawing females. . . especially depictions of females I knew. In middle and high school, girls would ask me to draw them and I’d respectfully decline — for fear they would throw my ill-fated creation in my face shouting, “That don’t look like me!”

Thankfully, music sidelined my illustration dreams throughout college and most of my young adulthood. Now that I’ve created APNF, my “graphical gynophobia” has attempted to rear it’s ugly head. I’m facing my fears head on by featuring female artists I admire on my webcomic.

As for the N’Dambi sketch, I “can’t hardly wait” to see how it turns out.
